shoalhaven river gorge

loved exploring this area and further along the Shoalhaven River. We didn't have too much time this trip but will definitely be back to explore some more.

The viewing points near Marulan hamlet and Tallong hamlet, show the Shoalhaven River bending its way towards the mighty pacific ocean..The river is narrow at this mountain start but ends up wide and at a beautiful big beach. seven miles long..The Shoalhaven River is 327.5 kms long; it starts at 864.3 meters above sea level..There is a gravel roadway leading part-way to the viewing point from the sealed road from Marulan..Without a map, it is easy to find your way to the viewing point, from directions from local people or the Motel in Marulan..The viewing place / lookout over the river, has been there a long time, and has been updated with picnic huts and seating as well as toilet facilities for men and women but without toilet facilities for wheelchair users..The terrain from the car parking area is unsuitable for wheelchair users wanting an easy ride..Returning to the car parking area from the viewing point, the slight steepness of the slope when combined with the gravel surface and the numerous surface tree roots, mean that wheelchair users need to be accompanied by mobility-enabling helpers..For folk with no mobility difficulties, there are several mountain trails that can be walked, some going directly to the river some going to near-riverside locations..There are signs stating the distance and energy needed for the various paths and also the time, so walkers may calculate that they should not be returning from their walk in darkness; to walk in darkness is too dangerous..It is so nice to see the river from this viewing point, the expanse of valley and deep gorge is breathtaking and a treat, especially for anyone normally resident in a city..There are millions of trees and there are lovely sounding birds, there are also some nice smells from the gumtree forest, especially when the air is misty..Every time I have been there, there has been someone visiting from outside Australia, they having been told of the view..Remember not to leave unattended, anything of interest, in any vehicle, while it is parked in the car parking are of the viewing place..Cheers..
