A visit to this museum is a must for all the family it is very educational for children and adults it give kids an understanding of how a submarine operates

Kids saw the Submarine on the side of the road and we had to pull over. The kids had a ball climbing all over the submarine, Then we ventured into the museum, you can experience life as a submariner in a original control room with a working periscope, which was great you could see the whole town. My son thought it was cool to see how a torpedo works, how a submarine surfaces.It's a great little museum.

Kids loved it. Kind of surreal having a bit O-Class submarine in the middle of the countryside. Good cafe nearby.

great little cafe and rest stop, only a minutes detour off the main highway. a great bit of australian history and something you wont see anywhere else. a submarine in a park...

We pulled in to see were my dad grew up to find a massive sub sitting in a park. It turned out to be a great stop point, the Cafe was great, the locals friendly, well worth the stop.

We called in to Holbrook on our way home to NSW from Victoria. We have stopped there often over the years but never been to see the submarine before. What fun! The kids climbed all over the submarine and the back end piece with the propellors, and then we went into the museum. Very friendly and helpful man on the desk. Only cost $10 for the family to go in. Lots of examples of life on a submarine including a privy, cabins, bunks and the main deck set up with working periscope. Lots of information and a holographic talk about how Holbrook got it's name. Whilst the hologram was interesting, it was too long and drawn out for the kids - they got bored. However there were plenty of other things for them to see and some interactive stuff as well. We spent an hour longer than we intended and enjoyed every minute.

In the middle of no where and with no water in sight nestles a submarine in the small NSW town of Holbrook. It is now just off the motorway but if you need a break, the park and sub are a nice walk and you can get a treat and use the loo.

What a shock. Driving into Holbrook only to see the famed sub shrouded in yellow knitting. We thought it had been hit by vandals but alas not! A big promotion to attract people back to the town since it was bypassed after the 2013 ski season.

We have visited the Holbrook submarine many times and always love a chance to stop and stretch on a long drove from Sydney. Now there's an even better reason. The submarine is yellow! For a limited time only, the submarine is covered in yellow knitted blankets in honour of the famous song. Looks amazing.The museum is brilliant. We love seeing inside the submarine and the holograms. Worth taking some extra time to go inside and see their display.Holbrook is a terrific country town with great cafes and lovely little shops full of treasures and friendly shopkeepers. Do yourself a favour and turn off the freeway.

2014 is the centenary of the establishment of the Australian Submarine Squadron and Holbrook decided to do something different, especially since it is also the 50th anniversary of that song. They organised community groups and individuals to knit yellow woollen squares to enable the submarine to be covered in yellow wool. What a great community effort and what a great result - charity may be the nominal beneficiary but the community is also a beneficiary. we could not credit the local enthusiasm towards this project.The museum does great credit to our submariners, contains plenty to entertain visitors of all ages and creates some real atmosphere. As a RAAF veteran with some naval links I found the whole experience very worthwhile, the long distance travelling very justifiable.

I liked the submarine. I liked learning about how it was saved from the scrap heap but most importantly how it was named after the Victoria Cross recipient Norman Douglas Holbrook. If you go this month (June 2014),you will see that HMAS Otway has been covered in yellow knitting squares to celebrate 50 years since the Beatles toured Australia.

Great museum about the Australian navy submarines and history of Holbrook and it's famous attraction - the HMAS Otway. Very detailed museum with good displays and a wealth of information. The holographic show is very well done and entertaining. Well worth the detour off the hume highway. Allow 60mins for a good look around.

Extremely informative and an hour well spent. The guides are full of information and to be able to actually use a periscope in the simulated control room was an awesome experience. The souvenirs are cheap and good quality.

Whilst staying in Albury we were recommended to visit the town of Holbrook, and now this will be a definite stop if ever we're up this way again. The B11 submarine landmark was a favourite with the kids climbing and exploring, the museum gave a history of why the town was named Holbrook (worth the $10 entry!) and OMG the Submarine Cafe is filled with great meals and delicacies! Great coffee too! With park and amenities close by, this town should definitely be on your "to do" list!
