A town out west in NSW whose population is in the 100's. Really worth a visit. The cafe 2828 for a delicious lunch and great coffee. An interesting gentleman of a young 84 years chatted with us and told us the history of the town and cafe. We purchased a corrugated iron enormous Galah for our garden, there are dozens even larger in the town and on the roads coming and going.The caravan park, small and personal run by Dave and Bernadette is $20 per night for a van and also has cabins. This included damper and pizza around the camp fire at 4 pm. A wonderful experience going and returning from Lightening Ridge

This café is also the information centre and shows an interesting video of its achievements while you enjoy a good, well priced coffee. Although we didn't eat, there was a busy kitchen working and the food looked good. Theres arts and crafts on display and for sale. Well worth a stop.

2828 is a great place to break your journey. It is friendly and comfortable, and the coffee is always good. All of the volunteer staff are trained in the art of coffee and it shows in the final product. The only negative I find is the ridiculous surcharge placed on eftpos transactions that seems to serve no purpose other that to discourage spending.
