I can see why this place has been open for so long- the location is great! Large trees everywhere, closest place to warm your hands around a mug after playing in the snow.I have been here only twice so my review isn't as balanced as it could be - first time It was one of my favourite places to eat!The second time the service wasn't good, the waitress was very rude. We were the only people there. However, everyone has bad days so who knows what she was going through. I do not let that experience taint what this place is great for = good quality food and lots of it.

My wife and I stopped at the Tavern for coffee and cake. The cake was fresh, the tea and coffee hot, the service friendly and fast. The tables were set in a light bright area with floor to ceiling windows looking out over a wooded hillside. I would definitely come back here again!

Passed through Fern Tree on the way to Mount Wellington, looked interesting so we decided to catch the local bus and come up for the day. Lovely quiet spot that felt vey peaceful. Not much in town where we got off the bus, except a few houses, a nice tavern where we had an enjoyable lunch, a small old wooden church that was the only building to survive the bushfires they had years ago, and plenty of forest across the road. We decided on an easy walk, 20 minutes or so we thought would be enough. Once in the forest it was as though we were alone with nature. Took many photos but gave up after a while as photos could not do justice to the beauty of the bush. It was far from boring. There was so much to see and admire, that once we reached our destination, we continued onto another track, and another, and another, We spent several hours walking around, before we decided to return for a late lunch. It was a real good workout for a couple of oldies like us, but it was really enjoyable and totally relaxing. Would definitely do it again when next in Hobart.

Had a drink on the way down from the mountain and proved to be a nice stop. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere.

We ordered the schnitzels as we had heard great things and wanted to see just how big they were. Well they were huge, but tasted awful. Vinegary and sour. Disappointing as we live locally and wanted this to be our local pub. Won't be back.

Nice pub and fabulously friendly service. Food was perfect too. We drove from Kingston Beach back around toward Hobart so it was a terrific place to break for lunch.

Service was good; the soup and hot bread was perfect after being cold up at Mt Wellington. Lovely young lady served us. Would stop by again.

Fern Tree Tavern is a great place to visit for a coffee, drink or a meal after a walk on the wonderful Mt Wellington.

Situated only ten minutes drive from the centre of Hobart and you are on the lower slopes of Mt Wellington with a myriad of both short and long walks and all spectacular scenery

A easy if not windning drive west of Hobart, Fern Tree is really the last vestage of housing before you start the drive to the pinnacle of Mount Wellington. A area of truely excellent walking trails leading off in all directions (including to the summit of Mount Wellington), its almost sub-alpine living conditions up that way in winter.

Great cafe with wonderful home cooked meals. They have just started a farmers market every second Sunday. The bus shelters are quite iconic having been decorated by the locals
