This cellar door is just delightful. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the wine is absolutely superb, the setting is delightful and the sausage dog Lotte is a gem. The winery was very busy, but the staff spent a lot of time with us and were very genuine. This experience was just wonderful. It is worth the trip out of the main part of the Barossa.

This is one of those great wineries of Australia and, although it's off the beaten track, a cellar door that must be on your list. It's quite small and only open limited hours in the weekend, so try a morning visit midweek if you want to be able to engage with the staff. They have a great range available for tasting - and if you show some interest/knowledge the staff will treat you accordingly. I got to taste Hill of Grace when they quietly slipped me a glass, while those around me were raving over the entry level wines!

Henschke is legendary winery with small cellar door but fantastic personnel - worth to visit for wine lover. Penfolds is nearby - do not miss it

Trips to the Barossa require visits to cellar doors, but for a wonderful, authentic, friendly experience you can't do better than Henschke. Not strictly in the Barossa proper, it's still worth making the trip over the few extra kms. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and the wine is excellent. PLUS they offer free shipping in Australia on cases! Excellent value when you live in Perth. Just note they are only open from 10-12 on a Saturday and not open at all on a Sunday, so make you trip during the week if possible.

Many fine wines available (special tours available to taste up to Hill of Grace), welcoming and professional staff (although perhaps a little corporate, which is understandable given the size of the operation). I'd happily go back.

Iconic winery set in original location. Small tasting area but great variety of quality wines to taste. Staff were very helpful and knew their stuff. Have to buy from cellar door it's a must.

The cellar door at Henschke winery is quaint, small, and part of the working winery. We visited during the week and found it a delight with the cellar door manager very attentive and informative. The tastings of over 12 wines (white and red) were on offer including 2 of their exceptional wines Abbots Prayer 2010 ($80), Tappa Pass Shiraz 2010 ($84). Their flag ship Hill of Grace was well out of our price range ($595) for the 2009 vintage. The trip to the winery is scenic, and definitely worth the visit.

This is a small winery cellar door, for one of Australia's most famous and highly regarded wine makers. If you are interested in Henschke wines, it's well worth a visit. On the other hand, if your interest in wine is not so great, then a visit to one of the area's winery visitor centers specifically catering for tourists may be a more worthwhile experience. The staff are knowledgable and friendly, the wines are excellent, and the setting is historic and quaint.Bear in mind it's a little out of the way as well.Well worth a visit for the aficionado!

My wife and I called into to this winery in the Eden Valley, on our drive from the Adelaide Hills to the Barossa Valley. The setting at the end of a road towards the end of the valley is superb, with views out over the parched rolling landscape (vines, golden hills & gum trees). The wines we tried were all great, and beautifully structured. The woman who served us at the cellar door was very friendly, even telling us how to find their Hill of Grace vineyard which contains Shiraz vines that are more than 150 years old. Lots of history here and the wine is'nt too shaby either.

This cellar door is located off the road a bit in the Eden valley. However, if you are visiting on a week day, it is well worth a visit. Lovely cellar door with old buildings, much ambience and terrific wines. The only prob is that the cellar door area is very small and when we visited the presence of only about 12 people meant we were packed in like sardines. Surely they could create a better room.

The wines are just superb and offer some of the best quality Australians offer. Hill of Grace, or the other really expensive drops, are not on tasting, but you won't be disappointed with their tasting wines. We also got to have a look in some of the areas with the wine tanks, which was interesting. Best to be there early (around 9 am) to avoid tour groups. Thankfully, we just missed one. As another reviewer said, the tasting room is quite small!

Home of one of Australia's icon wines - Hill of Grace Shiraz - this tiny little tasting room is worth cramming in to. They will let you taste the whole range (sorry not the Hill of Grace) but better to ask for guidance and just select (and savour) just a few. Make sure you ask =for directions back to Angaston via the Gnadenburg Church and the famous vineyard
