My son doesn't even really like the dark, but we decided to take our chance on a night walk thinking "When will we ever been in the New Zealand forest again?" It is a testament to guide Ian's good humor and critter spotting ability that we all had a lovely time tromping through the dark for hours, spotting owls and spiders and glow worms. A fun and chatty host who really knows the woods, and a memorable tour. If I were to change anything at all, I'd say if you do have younger kids, it could be a little shorter than the 3 hours or so we were out, but we enjoyed it all. (And someone slept well that night).

Guided tour (Jan 2015) through the forest with very passionate and informed Guides. Ancient Kauri trees are amazing, would like to go back and do the night walk. Good walking shoes, water and a rain jacket when under the canopy are advised. Tour starts with a Bus trip to get there and morning tea at the Guides property (which has a beautiful, relaxing outlook) on the way back, included in your fee. The walk goes down then back up, generally good fitness would be a help. The walk starts at a camp ground, it has bathroom facilities fitting to a camp ground. Very clean and comfortable facilities at the Guides property. Bug spray needed if they bother you.

From the initial contact through to the final fair wells Barbara, Ian & Helen were very friendly & have an obvious love for the forest. The night walk was fascinating and Ian provided the kind knowledge that can only be gained by growing up experiencing the forest.Similarly Helen exuded her joy & knowledge of the forest on the day walk and her easy nature made it feel like you was walking with a friend.

Excellent rainforest walks, the staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, telling us everything about the trees and animals, how they were used in the past, etc. The walk was wonderful, very easy going, with lots of good photo opportunities. Loved the forest, had so much life and beauty.
