Be prepare to spend few hours if you want to see it all and take you time. I went in couple but would be great also for families. I love that we can enter the wagon and travel through time. Easy layout.

Large rail yard in huge building housing many locomotives and cars, including passenger and dining coaches. Visitors can climb up the steps to the different cars and gain first hand experience. Of particular interest were the locomotive engines where one can sit in the engineer's seat and peer through the window to have his picture taken. A very enjoyable visit. In Montreal area but require car or special train to reach this attraction.

We went here on a tour but try to arrange a visit on your own or with a tour. This is certainly a family friendly place with great educational exhibits. We even got a ride on a small scale train. You will certainly leave here knowing a lot more about the Canada rail history.

Exceptional value for the money, but only if someone from your family is a railfan (i.e. loves all the railway-related stuff).Impressive collection of rolling stock and railway equipment. 80% of people come with kids and some with very small children. However, some exhibits can only be really appreciated by an adult.Make sure you visit the small station building next to restoration shed - it explains a lot about railways and their history. For the main hall, take guided tour. For guided tours they let you into some vintage railcars that are off-limits if you're not on a tour.If you're reasonably in shape participate in turntable rotation. It's funny how easy it is to move a 50 ton piece of metal by hand.Train ride (real, not the mini-railway) is not worth it - short and featureless. Mini-railway ride is fun, but you can get better experience in other places.Model train is cute unless you've seen the "real thing" - Miniatur Wunderland (http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g187331-d1027790-Reviews-Miniatur_Wunderland-Hamburg.html) - in Hamburg, Germany. If weather is good and kids will not get bored fast you can spend 5-6 hours there. Go in summer.

very neatly arranged exibition of railway vehicules, site is very clean and tidy. Main hall by itself is worth it. The hagar is a bit hot when I went but still worth to see. I'm forgetting the streetcar ride that brings back quite a bit of memoty. The miniature train ride is also neet. The personnel polite and gives you quite a bit of histoty of the rail in Canada. To sum it all, well worth going back.

My husband is a model train collector and he loved Exporail. The kids and I also had a great time. The collection is excellent and extensive, both inside the facility and outside. Museum quality exhibits. We did the free guided tour and it was excellent (thank you Stephanie!). It lasted more than an hour, it was very interesting, we learned lots and were even given access to a train car that is normally closed to the public. There is a trolley ride offered (not in operation when we were there). The model train room has a good HO scale layout, with a Thomas section for the kids. The gift shop has an excellent collection of books as well as the usual stuff you'd expect to find. No Via Rail or other Canadian railway memorabilia, though. We did this on our drive out of Montreal, and could have done it on the drive in to town, too.

Nice train museum. Lot to see and many train to climb in. Great for kids. There is a actual Montreal Tramway car that do the shuttle between the museum stations. There's a mini-train you can ride on, on Sunday there's a 15min train ride and some Sunday there's a Steam Train demonstration and a Observatory Tramway. You can send and receive telegram. There's a hangar number 5 where there's more trains and many train on the field of the museum. The food is bad and pricey, bring your lunch.

This is a wonderful museum for anyone with a passion for, or even a like of trains. Everything is well-described, well-illustrated and caters to all ages. The kids will love the mini ride-on train, the hands-on activities in certain cars and the tram that circles the entire site. Th e adults will enjoy the exhibits steeped in Canadian train history, the well-presented exhibits, and the tram ride around the site(who doesn't?). There are plenty of services, including a cafeteria as well as picnic tables out front, plenty of washrooms in different locations and ample aircon during the summer months. A bonus for 2014: if you are a resident of Saint-Constant, the city where the Exporail museum is located, you get in for free! All year! The only negative point to the visit was finding the bike rack positioned behind the main complex, next to two dumpsters. Not a very inviting proposition for attracting the local population who might actually make their way here on bike!

Perfect half-day visit for train enthusiasts. Our two-year-old twin boys absolutely loved this place - and it looked many other visitors were also there because of their kids' interest in trains. Our boys kept on saying "train" "train" as they wandered around the various trains on display, from model trains to life-sized ones. The indoor model train exhibit and the outside display of trains were highlights. We also liked taking the steam train ride around the property.

All types of trains and history surround this museum. It is for all ages. There is even a steam train ride that the kids will enjoy.

This place is the place to be if you love trains! There are trains of all kinds and from the different years! The kids will enjoy going here. You learn a lot about how trains began and their evolution. Very informative! Worth the trip!

If you live nearby and you have young kids I would definitely recommend buying an annual pass. Kids 3 and under are free. CAA members get 15% off. It's a cool musuem with indoor and outdoor attractions. They even offer free train rides.

Lots of exhibits and panels giving more info.Real steam locomotives can be seen in action some times.

This is a gem for kids and their parents. You can take various train rides, especially in the summer, and go inside trains and locomotives. Simply great!

Visit on a Saturday morning when it is pay as you wish. Maybe we were expecting more from all the hyped up reviews but the train museum is actually pretty small. There are 10-12 trains in the hanger-like museums and a small train model room. There is also a actual train shuttle running which was swamped with kids on the day we visit. This is great for a 1-2 hour visit but I will feel ripped off if I paid the actual admission price.
