I ate their duck leg confit at Manoir Chalevoix, it was excellent, Then we decide to buy some on our way back home. Upon arrival we examined the package and found there was very high content of salt (Nacl) 51% , we have to boiled it repeatly a few times to reduce the salt by doing that we have lost the taste of the duck. On the top of that , the price is $10 per duck leg which they claimed it is from a Mullard duck and not a Bromont duck for which I have difficulty to distinquish the difference of taste except the size is a bit bigger to be fair. Unfortunately for me it is not worth while to invest $10 for such a salty duck leg which I can get equally as good for less. I did not try their other products but they generally quite pricey.

In my previous review there was an issue with trip advisor when uploading my photos of La Ferme Basque. I wanted to make sure there were additional photos available since my review was the first one available. I want everyone to know how much joy this place brought to me on my great Quebec adventure.

I am surprised to find that I am the first to review this gem of a place! This farm and Charlevoix's cheeses are whole reason I made my way to the area. I love eating and cooking food and after 3 days in Quebec City I yearned for a kitchen so that I could cook my own locally sourced food. I found a place to stay on Isle Aux Coudres and off I went to source my food. My #1 place to visit was La Ferme Basque! I knew I was going to visit this place before I even left The U.S. I had poured over their website and knew in advance they had a farm store and could even get a tour of their farm. I didn't end up going on a tour as I was alone and it was at the very end of the day but now I wish I had been able to. The owner was even on the cover of a Charlevoix magazine that I had before arriving. After getting lost for most of the day (typical me and fine when on vacation) I finally made my way to St. Urbain at 4:30pm. I was worried I almost wouldn't make it, I needed my foie gras! The road it is located on has houses all along it and was a bit confused as I was looking for a farm but then I saw their sign and pulled in. There is parking around back. Attached to the back of what I believe is their house is a little farm store that not only offers the goods from their duck operation but other local products as well. I was greeted by the owner's lovely daughter who spoke some English as I spoke some French. She immediately offered me samples. I sampled foie gras that was in a jar, duck rillettes, foie mousse and some foie pâté. Next was what to buy??? I purchased some jarred products (pate and foie gras) so I could take them home with me and a Charlevoix reigon cookbook. For cooking and eating I purchased a piece of foie gras that was vacuum sealed (.126kg for $12.09), a big duck breast (.44 kg for $13.97, a steal!), a package of duck breast "prosciutto" ($8.50). As I was paying the owner came up with a big smile and said hello. I wish I could have told her how much I loved everything and how excited I was but mon francais est tres mauvais! They were such nice and lovely people. Later that night after relishing my duck, I was in heaven. Writing this now while at home I wish I could do it all over again. Maybe next time I'll take the tour to learn everything about their farm!
