We had a great full day of rafting with two runs on the Rouge River. The guys and girls took great care of us with a nice friendly welcome and knowledgeable guides steering us in the right direction. Our raft chose the more difficult washing machine route at the end of our morning run and went straight through unscathed. The afternoon currents saw a bit more hectic trip which was all controlled and really enjoyable. The lunch provided was good and the steaks afterward really fed us well while we watched the video of our runs. Well done to the whole team and thanks.

The area is absolutely awesome and the river and nature is gorgeous. Come for the nature and red river or riviere rouge. That said, skip eau vive and maybe skip any tour company unless you get other reviews on the others.I am pretty flexible having travelled the carribean and the 'eh man, no problem' pot-head routine but honestly don't tell me to come for 8:30 am and leave 10 am. Also, warn me about the long delays between rapids and returning to the base after lunch. Did we really need to wait an hour after lunch to go back for our clothes ? We should have warned about needing a lot of muscle for the raft too when you drag it up the beach alone with your guide. The guide (Catherine) was amazing but had no control over this bureaucracy. Also the company should train employees to be a tad more civilized on the bus. Thank God our younger kids didn't speak french with all the swearing.email directly for any further questions. we kayaked the rouge the day before in la conception and hands down was better.p.s. they weren't even ready with pics to buy at the end and we didn't have a water proof camera.... another lost sale for them. pity.

My wife (Dinaz), daughter & son (Fareezeh & Byram), niece (Nadine) & I (Dinshaw) traveled from Montreal to the River Rouge for our first rafting adventure in July 2010. We chose the package "Classic Rouge" but only signed up for ONE rafting adventure and not two, as per the normal website package. Dinaz cannot swim and was naturally apprehensive. Five of us were assigned to one raft with our main guide Eric; alongwith us was another off-duty guide Max and his girlfriend - basically we had the raft to ourselves! Arriving late, we missed the initial safety briefing but Eric & the Eau Vive Rafting team got us into our safety equipment and gave us a quick summary in the short time- with more to come. They did inform Dinaz that she'll have to get into the water - regardless of her knowing swimming or not (we all had to wear lifejackets - even the guides). After a short 7-10 minute bus ride, we set off from a calm spot in our rafts, each of us positioned in the most optimum way due to our heights, etc. (me being positioned in the 2nd position just behind the bow position). What I liked about the team - and Eric in particular - was the care with which they briefed us and treated us; and kept telling us what was coming and what we were to experience. When we had paddled a short way, passed our first set of very small rapids, we had to all get into the water for the safety test of the lifejackets & to show us how to get back in again -wet! Eric did not have to get into the water, but his dedication showed when he especially got in alongside Dinaz to help her - and she was entirely comfortable & felt no trepidation whatsoever once in. Nadine enjoyed it so much that she jumped in again just for the heck of it! Anyway, back in the raft, we made our way through a few more - larger - rapids till we came to the big daddy of them all, what they call the 'washing machine'. Again, Eric explained to Dinaz that this rapid 'had a mind of its own' and maybe it would be better for her to sit this one out- which she happily did. We didn't capsize luckily but the raft in front of us (or was it behind us) did! As we were only doing one rafting adventure that day- most of the others were doing two - the team gave us all a quick lunch (delicious ham & turkey cold meats!) and bussed the five of us back to base camp, where the video of us was already being burned into DVD copies. I must say, we had an excellent experience, one I will be only too happy to recommend to any one interested in this experience- especially with 'Adventures en Eau Vive' rafting. We were taken care of and made to feel comfortable and safe/secure. The owner (Bruno) & his wife run these adventures and have the operations set up very well.I think we did this at the right time when the river was not raging - we felt comfortable and yet got the rafting/rapids experience. We'll definetely return to Eau Vive rafting in the future - maybe for a slightly bolder experience. While we're from Pakistan & thought we'd be cold, the weather was excellent and the sun dried & warmed us off well - so we weren't shivering. However, if you do this around the same time, you may like to consider a shortie wetsuit; we were simply in our swimsuits and the sun dried the water off us - if you wear a shirt, then it'll stay wet on you. Another thing, follow the website (http://www.eauviverafting.ca/) instructions to get there and NOT any other map or directions. You may like to take along a small waterproof camera - but don't know where you'll store it as your hands are busy all the time. Check first with Bruno if its allowed too.
