It's been a few years since we were called a Village, but in many ways the downtown area really is small compared to cities like, New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong, or Los Angeles. You can get around Vancouver very easy on foot if your a walker/ or relatively fit person. With the city being wrapped in water on 3 sides, it's limited to growth in the downtown. Other than a small portion of China Town near Main and late nights on the Eastside of Gaston, the city is very safe and usually really clean. There is lots of construction currently under way so traffic is re routed and expect delays Monday to Friday for the next couple years at least. The major transit network of Skytrains, (subway) works well and is helpful especially if your going to and from the airport, Richmond, or towards New Westminister. There is also a great flight option via se planes from the convention centre area if your extending a stay over to Victoria. The flights on clear days would offer outstanding views of the Gulf Islands. When there is nice weather forecast I know of no other city in the world that offers so much beauty.

Vancouver is a beautiful place and the downtown area is certainly worth visiting. The different neighbourhoods offer different experiences, for example some areas are quite dirty and have a lot of homeless (Granville, Main St.). The other areas are pristine, Yaletown, Coal Harbour and the West End near English Bay are all wonderful places to visit.I suggest starting in Gastown and then circling round in an anti-clockwise fashion, going to Coal Harbour, Cycling the Sea Wall, having lunch at the Cactus Club at English Bay. After Lunch you could head over to Granville Island and explore it's many shops and stalls. Then explore the south sea wall and end the day in Yaletown.

Head over to Granville and take it all in. Yaletown is very cool too. Just walk, you will find something to investigate!

Vancouver is an extremely beautiful city to visit. Now, keep in mind that it does rain or drizzle lots, so be prepared to encounter this during your visit. But on a sunny day, it is absolutely beautiful!! From the scenic Mountains, to the Pacific Ocean, to the Downtown core, just an overall great city to visit.
