As the saying goes.. "You can't please everyone."With the negative reviews on this site one might question this experience. Our experience Equutrails was excellent. The team at Equutrails were excellent and gave 5 young kids an experience that they will remember for years to come. The team of Bob and Laura were friendly and enthusiastic. They quickly calmed any fears that the kids (and adults) had and created an amazing Sunday afternoon.I highly recommend this tour and will definitely go back again.

Wife picked up the groupon as a Christmas present for me and we booked for Valentines day. It was my first time riding and had been wanting to do it for quite a while. Was a little to chicken when I was younger.Booking was straightforward and easy. Got the corral and after a brief set of instructions we were mounting up. (despite brief, I felt comfortable) Once I was on for a few minutes and got the hang of it, it was a blast. The first few minutes I didn't quite know to pull harder or lighter etc...and was coached on how to hold the reigns and turn and stop the horse. The ride was awesome. The forest and Golden Ears in general are always amazing. We had leaders in front and back, and they were always looking to check on us. I asked lots of questions during the ride and they were all answered without problem. (what the breed was, and other rookie questions) I hate to say I can't remember the girl in front's name (white helmet) she was excellent.Wife had a great time as well.Would definitely ride with them again.

Our guests are given an option as to whether they want an adventure ride or a relaxing easy ride. As you indicated you wanted the more scenic adventure river ride and had some experience so that is what we provided. I am sorry to hear that your level of comfort and experience were not up to the task. Perhaps you should have chosen the easy ride. Generally clients who ride with us prefer not to experience what they refer to as "nags riding nose to tail" and as such we try to provide horses that have a little more energy. We do emphasize that it is very important for riders to manage their horse's speed especially downhill and that it is the most important thing that rider must manage during the ride. This is part of our safety instructions at the start. While we do everything that we can to ensure everyone's safety, It is impossible to watch every step of every horse behind. These are wilderness trails and are rocky and steep. It is unfortunate that your horse happened to trip as this is very rare indeed. As the rider I am not sure as to why you would not have called out immediately to advise of the situation. Perhaps as an "experienced" rider you were embarrassed that you were caught off guard and yet you assured me that you were alright. We encourage beginners and riders that are nervous or not confident to ride the easy flatter rides. Perhaps that would have been a better choice for you and your family.

Stephen, sorry you had to wait. We were running late because the previous groups had arrived late and set the schedule back. The horses were not double booked nor were they cranky.Your wife pulled out a plastic sheet from her backpack which we had requested she leave behind but wouldnt. The plastic spooked the horse. I am sorry I had to yell at your wife but she was panicking and hadnt heard me the first 2 times I asked her to let go of the plastic. As soon as she let it go everything was back to normal. I apologized immediately to her and explained why I had to yell. I am sorry your riding experience wasn't pleasant but perhaps next time you can be more careful about your actions around horses.

Based on your review it is unclear how we can address your concerns. We would be pleased to offer you a courtesy re-ride.

You and your partner had arranged and paid for your ride long before the groupon promotion started. We did not feel that it was appropriate to give you a "groupon discount" far after the fact. However if you wish to join us again using the groupon promotion, we would be happy to serve you.

Sorry you were disappointed not to see alouette lake but there was no claim made on the groupon or on our website that a 1 hour trail ride would include this in the trip. Alouette Lake is actually part of our 1/2 day rides. All rides, 1 hour included, are timed out to be exact based on an average walking speed. Ride times may vary based on horse speed and has nothing to do with preparation time. This is time that we as an organization bare at our cost. Trail rides are a set route and cannot be altered due to speed changes. If your ride seemed shorter it was likely due to the trotting which reduces overall ride time. The distance is still the same.

We do our best to match horses most appropriate for the rider and trails are selected based on the groups overall skill level and adventureness. Our horses are very well trained. Riders are given instructions on how to manage their horse with emphasis put on how to effectively use the reins to manage the horses speed. It is stressed many times on the trail, especially on the downhill how to control the horses downhill speed. It is ultimately up to the rider to put the instructions into play to manage their individual horse.

I apologize for the less than happy experience. The young rider had claimed that she had riding experience and had riding lessons. We to our best to choose horses for riders based on their claimed riding experience and temperament. It was quite obvious that the young rider was far less experienced than she claimed and did not pay attention to the instructions of the guide at all. It is always very unfortunate when riders claim more experience than they really have. This sets them up for getting a horse and a ride that is more than they can handle. Trails are chosen based on the overall experience and adventure level of the group. We could have just as easily gone on a much more novice trail had the group not chosen a more intermediate ride with steeper hills and varied terrain. We do advertise our rides as adventure experiences not flat trail rides where each horse is tail to nose.

Family came to visit me from Alberta. We hadn't ridden together since before I moved several years ago (not that I rode all that often there either). We thought it would be great to get out on horseback together so booked a half day ride to the waterfalls. None of us had been to golden ears before and we were amazed at how green and glimmering everything was. Alberta at this early spring is either still white or dirty brown. The terrain was also so different. lots of hills and turns, creek crossings, a look out point over the lake and mountains. It was magnificent. And I cant believe we forgot a camera. The horses were beautiful and well cared for. My daughter fell in love with her horse, onyx?. The guide let them stop to graze or to drink once in a while. Very knowledgeable and provided lots of riding instructions and tips. She demonstrated great passion for her horses and checked on our comfort and safety all along the way. What a great adventure. It was the best part of the vacation. We would definately recommend this to family and friends.RB

My fiance booked this as a birthday treat, and it was a great treat! We were a small group which was nice and the horses weren't your usual bored trail horses that plod along. As someone who has ridden for a number of years it was nice to actually have to "ride" the horse. Coupled with the fact that they rescue their horses and the amazing park it was definitely the best birthday present! We will be back again :-)
