Very cool carvings, nice walking path to them. Some pretty, some funny. Interesting to look at and hard to believe they were just down with chainsaws!

We first found out about Chetwynd when our son & his family moved there several years ago. Nestled in the Northern BC Mountains, it is a small town with very hard working lumbermen , foresters and Miners. Heavy duty trucks are the vehicle of choice here and I doubt you will not see one that doesn't have an avalanche or heavy snow fall warning flag on the back. Believe me ,if you are off the road in the winter time you need something to show where you are .We have been out twice to visit. The first visit we got introduced to the many spectacular chain saw sculptures positioned all about the town. The main purpose was to visit our grandchildren but we got so much more. It is dubbed " The Chain Saw Capital "of the world and it is not hard to see why. Chain Saw Sculptors from all over the world come here to compete for trophies and it is a fun but intense atmosphere. The town has A Hospital, Elementary, Middle & High schools an indoor pool , a Library, A Grocery store, small mall and Drug store and various other small businesses. Only one hour away you can also shop in Dawson Creek, the beginning of the Alaska Highway. On the outskirts of Chetwynd there are lovely scenic picnic sites and many small lakes to enjoy. To my Granchildren, We are coming out to visit on the 23rd of August and can't wait to visit with you again. Sorry we missed the Chain Sculpture Contest but we are looking forward to taking you downtown to see them and having our ice cream on the bench. We'll be there soon! Next time YOU want a place to see some spectacular Sculptures, Scenic vistas, Meet some down home people, and have a comfortable Hotel stay,& Hike the walking trails, then I'm sure the folks in Chetwynd would be happy to show you their " Hidden Diamond In The Rough ".enjoy good food at the pubs

Talk about talent! I don't know how many pictures my daughter took of these carvings! This individual is very talented! Must go slow through town and have a look! The detail is amazing!!

The carvings are awesome. They get better and better each year. The talent comes for the annual chainsaw competition from all over and it is truly awe inspiring what they can bring out of a piece of wood with a chain saw.

We had travelled through the town of Hope in southern BC, which is well known for it's chain saw carvings. Well, as home to an International Chainsaw Carving Championship each June for the past seven years, I think the Chetwynd carvings are every bit as good as those in Hope and maybe even better! There are about 100 beautiful carvings throughout town. You can stop by the Visitor Center to get a map and either walk or drive around to see them all.My friends needed to go to the store, so I took as much time as I could and wandered around looking. Some of the carvings are just phenomenal! I wish I had been able to see them all.The carvings include people, animals, trucks, mythical creatures, or any combination. There is even one of just a bench ... the most elaborately carved bench you'll ever sit on! I think my favourite was the "happy moose" :-)If I ever come through town again, I'll make sure to spend more time here. Well worth a stop.

Es ist erstaunlich was jedes Jahr neu zu der Sammlung hinzu kommt. Aus aller Welt kommen die Künstler mit Ihrer Kettensäge und zaubern tolle Skulpturen.
