It feels a little weird to offer a review of a cemetery, but Cataraqui Cemetery really and truly is an experience. I had lived in Kingston for years before I actually decided to take a drive through the entire cemetery one day and, let me tell you, this is one place where you need a car and a good pair of walking shoes! What started out as a search for Sir John A. Macdonald's grave, turned into an afternoon of exploring the immense grounds and admiring the history engraved in stone monuments. If a cemetery can possibly be beautiful, this one is.

So many of our family are laid to rest there. We love to walk along the roads there and the river remembering the losses that we have such fond memories of .

Sir John A, MacDonald, Canada's first Prime Minister is buried at Cataraqui Cemetery. Some of the graves date back many years. The veteran's area is a tribute to our country's fallen. The grounds are well maintained. The Haunted Tour Trolley makes a stop at Sir John A's grave and they tell you a bit about the cemetery

Nearly overwhelmed by the sense of patriotism knowing that our first Prime Minister's finally resting place is located here...not to mention all the military stones of our fallen heroes. If you are sensitive in the slightest, you will feel the weigh of the denizens heavy on your heart.

The Cataraqui Cemetery is a beautiful place to go if you have family there. It is well maintained, and it is part of the history of Kingston and the area.

Visit this cemetery where John A. MacDonald and his family are buried. There are interesting tall monuments and the cemetery is very well kept. Dates back to the 1860's in Kingston. You will want to drive into the cemetery as it is extremely large and you wouldn't want to walk it so take the car and park, get out and look around. Very interesting a huge part of Kingston's history.

Walking through Cataraqui cemetery is a walk through time. The Veterans section is a tribute to those who served our country. Sir John A MacDonald and his family are buried there. Queens University has a plot for those that have donated their bodies to science. As well there are many family plots. The grounds are well maintained and landscaped. You can wander at your leisure, Step back in history, pay tribute to our fallen and maybe your respects to a relative. Truly a quiet spot to reflect, meditate or teach your children or grandchildren some history.

The experience with Cataraqui was actually a few years ago. I just hadn't seen them appear on Trip Advisor prior to now.If it weren't for Cataraqui, I never would have met my Aunt. it's not that I hadn't TRIED to meet her prior to Cataraqui but having passed away, she could no longer avoid being seen by the rest of the family....those who she actually wanted to look after her burial. Strange situation. I'm the only sane one....ok, maybe not.Cataraqui DID do well under the circumstances. I realize their job is to accommodate dysfunctional families and they did with style.

The deemed Historic Cemetary, was the burial place of many founders of our Communities and the resting place of Sir John A. Macdonald. The Cemetary is on the outskirts of the main core of Kingston, in the community known historically as Cataraqui. The cemetery is historic, with prize winning gardens, lanes to walk, and much to quietly observe. It is a park of the walking trails! Not a gloomy resting place, but one that celebrates lives and history!
