Thanks for taking the time to visit us, Wilfrid, and then to review also. While being very much a local heritage centre we do try to present our material in a somewhat wider perspective, but This is a good reminder that we can do better.

If you are in Cobourg on a day trip, or even if you live in the area and are hosting friends or family, be sure to take some time and visit this great little place. Although small, it has some really interesting features like the building itself and the miniature railroad trains that move across two different sets of tracks and also has a number of buildings (watch out for the "little" bears and moose!) along the tracks. This year the displays inside the building are focused on the wars but for a small space, they pack in a lot - be sure you start this visit by viewing the short video; its worth the 2 or 3 minutes. What amazes me is that for such a small museum, the quality of their information and signs and displays and the grounds is excellent - not tacky but top notch! The volunteers do a great job and will provide you with any information you want to know. Be sure to check out the white building that houses the gift shop and ask about the history of the table in this room - you'll be amazed. I've been to this place at least twice every year and am never disappointed.

It's great that you enjoyed your visit. The enthusiasm of our guests just encourages us to do things better. I hope we'll see you again next season when the theme will be "Industry & Commerce".

This a small museum that gives the visitor a peek into Cobourg's history. It is run by volunteers who clearly love their town. My kids love the model train running on a railway replica when wood, among others, was transported to other towns in the region. There is also a room that commemorates the soldiers from that side of Ontario.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and get the word out. We are always adding on new and exciting things to our model train exhibit to keep it interesting. As for the exhibit hall, we change the theme inside every year, so come check it out again next year!

Thanks for taking the time to review our Heritage Centre and spread the word. Yes, we are a passionate group, and all volunteers. I hope you'll be back to visit this year as almost all the exhibits are new and the 'Railway Story" has grown remarkably over the winter.

A bit of controversy surrounding the origins but a neat little building that is still really steeped in history. Every year offers a new exhibition

Thanks for taking the time for this review. We hope you'll be back this year sometime between May 17 and October 13. All new exhibits and the railway layout will be even better!

Well worth a half hour or more. You can't make sense of where you are and what you're seeing, whether it's Istanbul or Cobourg, until and unless you know something of the history of the area and its people. Easy access from the historic downtown. And some good food within walking distance, not to mention a classic Ontario hotel for a drink.

This museum, now in its second year, offers a nice introduction to the history of the Cobourg, ON, area. It consists of two nicely renovated buildings near the center of the town, with well-designed and professionally-created graphic display boards, a couple of video presentations, and a collection of historical artifacts. The focus this year is on transportation, particularly the railroad constructed in the 1850's from Cobourg to Peterborough across Rice Lake. This enterprise was short-lived, succumbing to the lake ice. Shipping on Lake Ontario is featured as well. A small model railroad layout in the yard, with a model of the Rice Lake bridge, particularly appeals to children. This is a convenient stop for visitors to the lovely Cobourg harbor and beach area who would like to learn more about the town and region.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I'll pass your appreciation on to the volunteers (which we all are!).The building is our chief artifact and further interaction with it is something we'll be working on.Our exhibits change annually and next year we'll be higlighting our military history. Hopefully that theme will produce more artifacts for us to borrow and display. I hope you'll be able to check us out again.
