it was a beautiful trip with lots of time to relax, snorkel, sunbathe etc. the boat ride was amazing with snacks provided on boat and drinks. When you go for a swim they have a floating bar to serve drinks, they sell waterproof cameras as well. You get an amazing lunch at Punta Rusia. I recommend using extra caution with sunscreen because I got burnt on this excursion and not usually prone to burning. Otherwise was a great day.

Kind of a trek from Puerto Plata where we stayed, but worth it. The sand bar where the shelters are shifts with the tides so no two trips will be the same. Our trip included lunch and snorkeling, albeit with no training. A fun day out in the sun!

We booked the VIP catamaran tour to go to Paradise Island. Full day on the ocean from 7H30 am to 7H30 pm. We had a great time! Champagne in the water, lobster lunch and fish and pork with a salad bar. The snorkeling at Paradise Island was wonderful. Drinks included all day. Music, dance, pure fun. It was wonderful day.

Fab opportunity to see coral reef and tropical fish. Take banana as fish love this and will feed from your hands. All equipment provided. Word of warning, no toilet facilities! The speed boat trip to the island is great fun. Dont worry if you've not snorkelled before, help is at hand.

We left Punta Rucia around 8:30am for the island and arrived ahead of the crowds. For a sand bar with a few huts, this place gets busy!!! If you can speak Spanish, go to Punta Rucia and negotiate for a much cheaper price than listed through the hotels. Decent snorkeling. It was rough the day we went. Limited coral and fish species with some damage from over use. Bring sunscreen!!! Also bring a cover up as the sun is very intense on this little island. By the time we left there were roughly 300 people. Worth beating the crowds and the most sun intense parts of the day.

Me and 3 other ladies did the VIP tour for $ 150U.S. But stupid me used my Visa card and after all the exchanges it turned into almost $ 195 CAN. We had some kind of a mix up between the Sunwing rep and the tour company because we got picked up 1 hr late. So right away we were a lil upset. But it turned out to be a great day. We had continental breakfast on board the catarman, all the alcohol you could drink, lots of dancing music and photo ops. Later we drank champagne while floating in a quiet cove and than took the boat into the Mangroves. Ate an awesome lunch which included lobster, pork chops, chicken veggies etc at a 2 tier restaurant. The whole time a videographer filming everything. $ 35 dollars for the video by the way. Then we raced out to the island and snorkled. Not a lot of instruction or supervision. Some people were having problems getting back to shore because it was so wavy and they should have been wearing life jackets. After the islands we got back on the bus again at a different location and almost didn't make it to the cigar place. The roads were awful and we almost took out a couple mopeds turning a corner because the roads were so narrow. Even on the way there we took down a hydro wire and drove with it dangling from the bus to the catarman. Everyone was so tired after snorkelling that they said that we should have just skipped the cigar place. Lots of fun all day but too expensive. We used an underwater camera and the photos are really cool. Bring bananas to feed the fish.

This was a surprisingly underwhelming excursion. We signed up for the VIP tour @ $150.00 US pp that included "breakfast" on board the catamaran and a lunch on an island with a stop at a "cigar factory" to top the trip off. This is a long day. It went on for almost 12 hours. Breakfast was a tray of home made deli meat roll ups with cheese and some fruit with bread. There was booze available but limited water. I'm sure there was a lot but it just seemed to inconvenience them to pour it or straight pop. There is no towel service! Pack a bag with one and a change of clothes. We brought extra clothes but no towels.Lunch is OK. Lobster tails and BBQ pork chop pieces. Beer, wine and pop to drink, too. You get 1-2 lobster tails but can eat as many as 4, if there's extra. No sand fleas thank God.I brought my own snorkel equipment so can't comment on the supplies from the tour. My son swims with goggles without fins; and my husband prefers to smoke and drink on shore. I'm not sure what I expected but when the island came into view, it was "small". It's a sand bar in the middle of the ocean with approximately 7 huts on it. Each tour/boat operator grabs a spot and sets up shop. The Island is packed with people sunbathing, chatting and swimming. I suppose part of me thought the water would be calm and the reef teaming with exotic fish as per the brochure and resort hype. Needless to say it wasn't. The water was rough. Nobody is watching you either. You don't have to go out to far from the sand bar to get into trouble. Frankly, that's where you need to go to see the "best". The fish species is amazing. I've snorkelled in Cuba, Jamaica and now DR but must admit there were some beautiful fish around the coral reef. You can "feed them" but our tour guide never gave us chum. I suspect they "feed" the fish regularly to attract them to this area with and without tourists around. When we docked, we had a chance to change. We dried up on ride home in the wind. It was cool to say the least. Then off again to see a cigar factory. What a crock! Some guy rolling leaves at a desk, another reporting their special blend and practices. Boring and a waste of time!Returning to the resort was a God send. It's really long and over priced.

The island is tiny. There are only four hits, but the water is so beautiful, clear and warm. The snorkeling is fabulous. The mangrove is pretty, quit and totally different from the island. Don't miss it if you are in Puerto Plata.

Where do I begin with "Paradise Island"? First off, we booked our excursion there because my boyfriend has never seen the crystal blue waters in the Caribbean, and I knew that the beach at our resort in Puerto Plata wouldn't offer that. A day at the beach away from the resort sounded like a good idea... So we thought. What they tell you at the tour desk is that "everything is included". What they don't tell you is a whole lot!1) it's a 3 hour bus ride from Puerto Plata and the bus hits almost every resort on the beach picking people up. So, let's do the math... 3 hours there, 3 hours back and 2.5 hours at the actual island. That's not a day at the beach.2) this "island" is a tiny sand bar with zero shade, and almost no space to lay down a towel. It's also packed with as many people as they can fit. There had to be at least 100+ people there while we were there.3) the "bar" consisted of 2 handles of rum and a couple bottles of soda. Cups were being rinsed in a bucket.4) the only restroom for the entire day is at the restaurant you stop at before getting on the boats. No seat covers, no toilet paper, the toilets don't flush and it reeks of urine. Gross. The overall experience made us cancel our other excursions and just stay at the resort for the trip.
