Walking on the same hill that Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders fought on is a real treat. Not kept up very well but you need to visit this historic site

Not much to see, you will be approached by someone who wants to be your guide but doesn't speak English. That's ok because at least they are trying to provide a service rather than just ask for money. A few monuments on a hilltop, it's ok.

Look up your TR history and how it relates to Cuba. This is a nicely preserved hilltop, replete with an assortment of canons and the obligatory statues. It's located in the center of a neighborhood. There's a seemingly abandoned childrens' ferris wheel and merry-go-round on one edge.Watch out for the guy blowing the trumpet...he's going to want a CUC if you take his picture! Hey, it's Cuba!!

Very modest hillock, lots of bronze plaques. Lots of people died here. Not sure that it was worth even one life.

Visited San Juan Hill as part of a trip to Santiago De Cuba from Guardalavaca in January 2015. Having an interest in military maters and knowing the history of the battle, it was very interesting for me to see that actual place where the charge took place.Shame the little tower erected at the top of the hill has been built on. Apart form that, a must see if interested in the US - Spanish conflict.

Teddy Roosevelt won the Medal of Honor for his time in Cuba and San Juan Hill. A lot of History in this place. There is a look out tower and peaceful place to look around. Full of so much history.

This is an incredibly historical place of American history, in a far off corner of Cuba, rarely visited. Hopefully that will change soon. There is no one on duty, no real signage, other than what's written on the monuments. Because it's so rarely visited, it felt good to pay respects to people that gave their lives for our country, so long ago. Best to read about it first in a detailed guidebook. It's just a few minutes by taxi from central Santiago de Cuba.

There was little sense of reverence or respect for the battle. The nearby amusement park was a distracting impact that intruded on the monument.

Lots happened here but you should really visit with a knowledgeable person who can explain the historical events. We were fortunate to have a local friend who did this for us. Don't miss the bronze books near the foot of the hill with every fallen soldier's name inscribed.

My cab driver brought us here because I wouldn't stop talking about the place for three days - Like most things in life - it was just another photo - op - Teddy Rosevelt, charged down the hill so that was, sort of interesting.

The monuments are well-marked, although soiled. The observation tower is interesting, with landmarks pointed out as if they were military targets, but the inside of the tower smells like stale urine. The whole place could use a good pressure washing.

This unprepossessing hillock was the scene of the bloodiest battle in the Cuban-American-Spanish War, known for the victory over the Spanish defenders by two companies of "Buffalo Soldiers" (African-American troops) and Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Roosevelt won the US Medal of Honour here. Monuments from various US states and from Spain dot the hilltop and the view over the countryside is inspiring. It's just a short and inexpensive taxi ride from the city.

Tres interessant d'apprendre que les Americans ont combattu les Espagnoles a cote does Cubains. Vous trouverez l'inscription des noms americains sur des plaques.
