It's a very interesting place to visit. It is the only place where cigars are made in the Pinar del Rio tobacco growing area. (Most cigars are made in and around Havana.) You can watch the whole, hand made, cigar manufacturing process inside the factory. It is very interesting and well worth the visit. There is also a shop where you can purchase various brands of Cuban cigars, also ones made elsewhere. There is a cigar shop across the street that sometimes might have a better selection of cigars.

Loved going to the valley to see cigars being made. Was able to see how they made six different types of cigars. Interesting to see the process and how many they made in such a short period of time.

For those interested in cigars and the process of making them, this is the place to tour. Sure, the factories in Havana are large and well-known but because of this, there's often overrun with tourists and the guides are too busy to answer questions. That's why this is the place to tour.Francisco Donatien is one of the smaller factories in Cuba making hand rolled cigars. The factory probably only has about 50 rolling tables and torcedores (rollers) making cigars. During my tour, the guide walked everyone through the rolling process and described how the tobacco is taken from its raw form and made into a cigar. After the tour, we were allowed to linger and loiter and watch the rollers for quite a while. Everyone in my small group was mesmerized by the process.Where this place REALLY shines is the Casa del Tobaco store. A very large and well-cared for selection of cigars was available by the box as well as single cigars. This store had one of the largest selections of single cigars I've seen on the island and what they had available to purchase as single cigars were some of the best you can find and are almost never offered as individual cigars. H. Upmann Sir Winstons, Saint Luis Rey Double Coronas, etc. The staff spoke excellent English and was able to make very good recommendations to the members of my group based on their preferences in tobacco. A great example of cigar factory plus a well-stocked and well-run cigar store make this a must visit in Piñar del Rio.

To visit this traditional factory is a lesson, you can feel in an medieval guild, where fathers teach sons...On the other hand, as in most of the tours in Cuba, nobody explains what is going on, so the only way to interact is to be fluent in Spanish and speak with the workers as I tried to do.

How interesting to see these people (mainly women) rolling cigars. How skilful are these people! The tour is really unmissable and I will do it again: pity that no cameras are allowed (this probably come down to the socialist country but...a cigar factory is not a military secret!)

I really enjoyed this visit to the cigar factory. The women were so dextrous rolling the cigars. It is a brief tour with no cameras allowed but way better than another cigar making exhibition I saw down the coast. These women were doing this as a livelihood rather than as a one off tourist show which I appreciated more. Lovely little place and we were lucky enough to have driven past some plantations on the way and have the process explained so it was good to see the final product being made so well.

In my opinion this factory is worth the visit. Yes you can not take pictures inside, and you can only see the rolling of the cigars, but this was sufficient for me. It is exciting to see the workers to do this process, from streching the leaves, rolling them, putting them under pressure, make them smooth, see the testing. You stand one meter from them and you can get hooked seeing how meticulously the are working.there are locals outside the factory telling you that it is not worth it and that they can take you to the plantations so you can see everything and not only the rolling etc. they will say the plantations are 8 km away, but the really good ones are 20+ km away. And they want you to take them in your car. We did not do that, did not really trust them as they were very pushy, and went in the factory itself. which we didn't regret at all. There is also a shop in the factory, good prices now that I saw the prices in the duty free so buy from there (and not across the street where you get your tickets). If you decide to go with the guys outside the factory, they will probably try to sell you some, but you wouldn't know if they are fake or not.

Traditional cigar factory where you can see all steps of the production process of the famous Cuban cigars.Depending on the time of the arrival a bit crowded.Cameras are not allowed and must be stored at the entrance.

The city of Pinar del Rio might not have much to offer but the cigar factory is a must if you are spending some time in Vinales. It is not a huge factory but you do get to stand just a meter or so from the workers and see them rolling those cigars. You'll get to see every step of the process. It is indeed a very intimate experience. There is also a guide who gives you a quick run through the process so you'll know what is it you are watching. Once you are done with the visit you might want to purchase some cigars. There is an authorized shop in the factory and one on the opposite side of the street. Two things you should know is that the factory is closed to visitors during lunch time and that tourists are not allowed - and they really mean that - to photograph inside the factory. All in all, the factory is absolutely worth a visit if you've never been to a cigar factory before.
