Remember to bring water, it's a hot climb up the stairs, daytime temperatures are about 30C. The stairways faces south, too. Fortunately Holguin usually has a breeze. At the top there is water and cold beer. They tell me there are 366 stairs, but I didn't could them. Every 40 steps or so, there are resting areas with benches.

Amazing views of the mountains Well worth the visit Great spot for photo buffs Some locals selling trinkets but they are friendly and not intrusive

Worth going there and seeing the city from the top. There was a small room where a family was selling paintings. Very creative but expensive.

We took the excursion "Cuba Inside"...one of the places we stopped was the hill of the cross...it was totally worth it.

My husband climbed the stairs but I chose to take the bus. Needless to say, he wished he would have taken the bus. Lol.

Four hunderd and thirty something stairs.. or you can drive up.. ;) beautiful view of Holguin. It was really peaceful. Watch for the wax on the steps from the candles in the shrine - it's slippy in spots.

If you have the chance to visit the beautiful city of Holguin include for sure La Loma de la Cruz, it has an amazing view of the city. Remember no tricks you have to up on those stairs :)

Took a bus tour to Holguin and drove to the top of the hill. Spectacular view of Holguin! Climb the steep ladder for the best view. Restaurant and souvenir stands are also there.

I am not a spring chicken, but to get the experience to see the city from the top, I would not even think of taking a taxi. Yes, it is 500 big steps. You can take it easy and have a rest on one of the concrete benches after each 25 steps. It was pretty humid as sun came up after a morning rain. So you sweat a little, it's good for you!Holguin is not Roma, Paris, Prague or Vienna by any stretch of imagination. Still it is a satisfying experience to look at it from this vantage point. Buy a beer, buy a painting or just take a breather before you go down again.

Beautiful view of Holguin but you have to watch the panhandlers. If you give a gift to one, you have to give a gift to all.

We went to the Hill of the Cross during our Cuba Inside tour with an old fashioned American car. The viewpoint is amazing, you can take some lovely pictures of Holguin. If you would like to go there on your own, I still would definitely recommend getting a taxi up the hill, because it's massive, you'll take hours before you get to the top :)

We had a Cuban rental car with an Cuban driver and visited the Hill of the Crosslast November with friends. I had not been back since my first trip to the Holguin area10 years ago and many great times ago. I was surprised on the growth of the housinginto the Mountain areas and the size of the City of Holguin. A must place to visit.also has a little bar and tables to sit down and have a cold Cuban beer.

Beautiful view of the city. Holguin city tour was clean for the size of the city. Found the streets quite narrow hate to see what happens if there's more cars,

this is a must. If you're up to the task, take the stairs, there's only 468 (haha). You'll quickly notice the stairs are at least a 10" rise instead of the standard 7" rise.
