We hiked from the starting point to a secluded beach which we were the only people on at one point. The scenery was breathtaking and although the hike was challenging at times, reaching the beach at the end was completely worth it.

A little tough to get to if the surf is rough (expect to get wet) but animals do not act afraid, so you may have close encounters if you are quiet. Many trails are closed for renovation. Accommodations are basic. Macaques will steal the food off your plate!

This was a great way of discovering Borneo. A bus trip to Bako village and a boat trip to the park followed by a (very hot ) day exploring the rainforest. We saw snakes, spiders, three types of monkey, wild boar and many large pitcher plants. We hired a guide for the day (PE was his name ) and he was well worth the cost. This is a very hot trip so plenty of fluids are required. The canteen is pretty rank so taking a packed lunch is the way forward if you can. The whole day was a lovely experience even the journey back was a bit of an adventure for us. Would liked to have gone back but ran out of time.

Amazing flora and fauna. Proboscis monkeys come to say hello on arrival. Accommodation basic but clean. Plenty of choice of food.Watch out for macaques. The threw everyone's clothes in a temper on the floor. Cheeky.Walkways are quite scary. Don't think any collapsed but felt them giving. Wonderful seeing fireflies.

Large number of animals which can be observed close to the centre (macaques, silver leaf and Probiscus monkeys, bearded pigs etc. Pleasant and helpful staff. Short walks through a range of rainforest vegetation.

Bako National Park is famous for the Proboscis monkey with unique nose shape, the sea stacks, and the biodiversity of the forest. Me and my friends, 7 of us, went for a day trip. 10 a.m we departed from Bako Village via boat (cannot be earlier because of the low tide) and reached the national park at ~11a.m. Usually the boat trip from Bako Village to the national park only takes ~30 mins but we only reached 1 hour later because of the low tide. We managed to walk only 1 trail and rode the boat to see the sea stack. We returned to Bako Village at 2p.m. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the forest rangers, who briefed us on the trails and suggested the best trail for us. We were required to sign in before walking the trail and sign out after finishing our trails (to avoid missing lost persons). Do:1. Bring comfortable shoes for trekking and climbing2. Wear long pants to avoid mosquito bites3. Bring adequate water with you as you walk the trails, and food as per required4. Stay overnight to experience the monkey experience (as animals are the most active during dawn and dusk). Call in advance for accommodation booking.5. Study the trails online before exploring them to make your trip more enjoyable and to be able to see what you came here to see. 6. You may hire a tour guide to bring you around the national park, available at the Bako Village boat jettyOur costs per person during our visit:National park entrance fee RM10Boat from Bako Village to national park RM15 one-wayBoat from Paku trail to see the sea stacks and then back to park headquarters RM7 For booking of accommodation call Kuching Visitor's Information Centre at Tel No: (+6) 082 - 248088 Bako National Park Tel: +6082 478011 or +6082 478012 Bako Terminal Tel: +6082 431336Enjoy!

Unfortunately we couldn't get accommodation to stay the night so had to make it a day trip but was still an amazing day . caught the 7am bus from kuching , followed by a boat to the national park, after a quick coffee we were off walking by 9:15am and returned at 3pm . We did the lintang circuit and did the view points and beach visits along the way . seeing the monkeys swing from the branches 30m above our heads was just amazing . totally different experience to seeing them at the zoo .One of the best national parks iv been too and a must visit if your in kuching

For something different try this offbeat national park. You will find your lifetime's share of macaque monkeys, wild boars and other wildlife.Accommodation is appropriately rustic, but comfortable enough. You can do great walks through the thick jungle. But make sure you shut the windows to keep the monkeys out during the daytime when they forage.

Best part of our trip was our overnight stay here. Not because of the accomodation (expect no more than a musty camping cabin with cold shower - but the air con worked well). Unbelievably great monkey experiences with Macaques and Proboscis. Both extremely close and unforgettable. Certainly worth a night's stay as two hours pre/post dark is best time to see. Night walk was fun, but the guide wasn't well informed or able to find much. Still, for 10rm it was a fun walk

I stay for one night in the national park with my family. We hired a guide and he was quite knowledgeable on the wildlife, routes, and even name & use of the tropical plants!! A must place to go in Kuching

We took the 7am city bus, arrived at the jetty at 8 and were at the park by 830. Some other people took the 8am bus and were then stuck at the jetty until 1pm because of the tide-take the early bus just in case! We did the Lintang trail first which took us 3.5 hours. Didn't see any wildlife but it was an adventure-very wet in places and a lot of roots to climb up and down. Around 430pm we took the short (800m) trail to Paku beach. We saw a few Proboscis monkeys in the trees next to the beach and were able to watch them for a while. At sunset there were a lot of proboscis monkeys in the trees near park HQ. Also macaque monkeys on the beach not at all bothered by humans nearby. The accommodation was basic but we expected that from the reviews. Ours was type 5, house 7- a wooden chalet set away from the hq. The room was clean and the fan kept us cool. Bathroom shared with the room next door. I don't understand why the type 6 accommodation is half the price WITH ensuite though? Oh well-just one night :) There were lots of day trippers who left without seeing any proboscis. I highly recommend staying over as otherwise you may leave disappointed. They are active at sunset and in the morning-we saw them around 8am too.

The boat rides there and back were great with bird life seen en route. Within an hour of our arrival we had seen all three of the species of monkey that live in Bako National Park. We also saw wild pigs, a snake and assorted birds and insects. The tide can constrain the timing of access.Disliked the quantity of rubbish that gets washed up onto some of the beaches.

Bako National Park offers considerable advantages of a national park very close to Kuching. It has many options, short, medium or long treks. You can actually do a day trip and trek to the nearest bay. I would recommend at least 1 night though. You get a variety of vegetation and geographical features in one park. The wardens do care for your safety and work hard at it. The boat ride to the park is managed well with safety uppermost. However I think the wooden planks and steps over some of the difficult areas could do with better woodworking and fastenings. It is currently mostly hammer and nail and deteriorates over time. In future treated wood and bolts/nuts would be safer. Go early as the wild animals disappear when the sun comes out. I think reception ticketing and boat ticketing can be better managed even if they are by different entities. You can buy park entrance tickets and then find the weather or tide is not suitable for the boats to go out.

We were told to go early and we did not regret doing this. We were at the Bako jetty by 8.00am and were also lucky the tide was right, we reached the Park HQ at 8.30am and immediately we saw a few proboscis monkeys on the beach up close - less than 20 feet away! We then saw the silver leaf monkeys and the naughty macaques who snatched a visitor's plastic bag with food, some even hang around the canteen waiting for a chance to snatch some leftover food from unsuspecting visitors. Next was the bearded pigs with cute little piglets following their mother, all near the park hq, even before we started the jungle trekking. We chose the Telok Pandan Kecil beach trail which took us one and a half hours. This trail passes through several types of vegetations and ends at a small secluded beach. There is a cliff with a drop of several hundred feet and a spectacular view of the beach and the famous sea stack in the distance. Be warned, the trail is not for the unfit. We too were too tired to walk back and took the small boat waiting at the beach back to the park hq at an extra cost of RM35.This is a full day activity and lives up to its reputation as a top-notch attraction. Bring plenty of water, as you're going to sweat a lot, and some energy bar. Sun-block too, as a good part of the trail is under clear sky. Good walking shoes are a must and a poncho in case it rains. We were advised to get a park guide which costs about RM100 for a day, he knows all about the flora and fauna of the park and chances of seeing them is higher. But we did not and I guess we were just lucky to spot so many wild life. Overall, a very satisfying day and highly recommended.

When visiting Kuching Sarawak a must do is go to the Bako national park. Not just for it's natural beauty but the wild life roam free. You can walk around on your own but would recommend having a guide as they can point things out that you may not see for yourself.also lots of plants that grow there are used in medical products
