Museum is very informative and interesting, looks fairly small from the outside but spent a fair amount of time there and the staff were very friendly when we visited.

The museum is a fabulous local representation of the local history.It is worth as much time as you are able to spend there. traveling up into the mountains of luzon brings you into a very different culture compared to the coastal towns where fishing is the main stay of life...in the mountains its rice and vegtables..i took the walk into bontoc..which is isolated in the mountains..no roads..only walking paths..i got a quide to help ..not to find the village but to help carry my bags.and spread some money around..the trip from the main road where there also a place to sleep and eat and is a nice place..clean..low cost...the walking trip is a long half day..try eating and sucking on the local energy juice from the betal nuts which they add some leaves and salt too and chew..and the result is a red spit which makes the teeth red..said to help the gums..but mostly adds in energy..i enjoyed it..when you get to bontoc you have 2 choices stay on the upper rim or down into the heart of the village..we stayed on the upper rim..and took day trips into the center and the very wonderful rice terraces surrounding the place..its breathtaking..they reach into the sky it seems..terrace walls made of rocks placed thousands of yrs ago..walls over 6 ft high..with a water system of great skill feeding the various areas..there is also a nice half day walk to a waterfalls which is a nice look and swim to cool off..the locals are not pushy and friendly..if you like to smoke pot just ask the sari sari store for a special box of matches..ps bring your own papers..or pipe..as for food its ok..dont expect the best choices being their cut and everything must be brought in by foot..at night their are shows put on by the locals for visiters in the center..there are many villages in the area..just be careful..aware of the poss..problems in the area at the time..and if poss..always have a partner..

If ur on ur way from sagada to banaue, bontoc is a welcome stop. The people are nice and some of the elderly still bear the tribal tattoos.... The museum is a welcome change and the house replicas are true to scale... Doors were apparently very tiny back then! It's worth a visit... :3

We stopped in Bontoc, on the way to Banaue from Sagada - and it was a great choice.The museum has an interesting collection that allows you to get to know the ethnological history of North Luzon. It's a good reason to stop in Bontoc and we did not regret it.It was also the only museum where we saw old photographs from headhunters. The collection of artifacts is very good.Don't miss it!

Went to the Museum while staying in Bontoc in March/April 2013Amazing in site to the Mountain Province people and their customs and traditions.

Bontoc, in Mountain Province, is an interesting drive with spectacular scenery, en route to Sagada. We stayed overnight in Banaue, which is about about 10 or so hours from Manila. It is a well ordered little town, with an excellent museum of native objects and artifacts of the many different Filipino tribes of the region. Displays of items of interest for all ages. Exhibits are well labelled. Outside there is a reproduction of a Bontoc village and also an excellent souvenir shop and library. A long way, but well worth the trip. It is possible to travel to all the above places by bus.

It was a nice short stop before lunch. We went inside this nice museum. Small but full of substantial information through their exhibits. Valuable and remarkable.Outside the area was a small village replica for visitors to see. The traditional huts were there open for anyone who stepped in for a look. One can figure out how they live with this kind of dwelling. There is a museum shop for souvenir items.

Bontoc has calmed down - tribal wars and insurgencies seem to be forgotten. Has the feel of a frontier town despite being a cultural center.Mostly corrugated iron buildings, like many in the Cordilleras (one in fact made entirely of corrugated asbestos) - definitely much poorer than Pampangas, Boracay, Sagada and much else.The market has an intriguing way of chasing away flies - an ingenious revolving swivel.The museum itself has many photos and artefacts depicting the region's history.One can see the evangelizing effect of Protestant missionaries - pretty much the same as on the inocent, spontaneous, joyful south-sea islanders of the Pitcairn days.A group of Israelis were there at the time. Could they be taking over from the Germans as the world's greatest travellers?

Interesante muestra histórica. Presenta las tribus y formas de vida de los antiguos filipinos del norte de Luzón, sus labores y herramientas, así como una interesante muestra fotográfica. Lo mejor es la reconstrucción de viviendas/cabañas al aire libre. Está anticuado, podría mejorar mucho.

Ein Besuch des Museums ist unbedingt zu empfehlen! Es ist umfangreicher als gedacht und ein bis zwei Stunden sollte man für den Besuch einplanen. Das Museumsgebäude ist zweistöckig, außerdem gibt es noch einen interessanten Aussenbereich mit Nachbauten von Wohnanlagen der Bewohner der Mountainprovinz.Das Museum zeigt deutlich, wie rasant die Entwicklung in den letzten hundert Jahren über die Provinz gekommen ist. Tolle historische Fotos aus den 50er Jahren zeigen noch ganz und gar archaische Lebensweisen in den Bergen. Davon ist nicht viel übrig, nur ab und an sieht man noch traditionelle Ifugao-Häuser.
