it was interesting to see a Buddhist temple, Russian Orthodox Church, Catholic and Episcopal church all within a block of each other. The outside of the buildings and churches are well maintained and it is interesting to see that Hakodate must have been a very important staging post.Nice way to spend an afternoon, again it gets busy later in the day, with tour groups doing Motomachi and then going up to Mount Hakodate.

The night view of the streets and lighting, especially the mega xmas tree were very nice. Besides redbrick warehouse which offers great shopping, there are overseas churches nearby the area for exploration. Relaxing to be strolling along the harbour. I love Lucky Perriot hamburger which is less than 5 mins walk from the warehouse.

Must go attraction. Its a very pleasant and scenic walk. The Russian Orthodox Church is truly beautiful.

It's a nice stroll if you enjoy exploring on foot. You get to see some nice quaint shops or cafes along the way. I am so glad that we rented a car, it was too strenuous for me to walk uphill and some parts are pretty steep. The area feels nostalgic and old school. I enjoyed the layback feel.

Apart from some historical buildings around the area, we could have a nice stroll around the red brick warehouses in the Bay Area to purchase souvenirs and have some snacks in the shops there prior to reaching the JR Hakodate Station. If you have time to reach the area early around 3 pm, I highly recommend you to sit down and have the traditional afternoon tea in the previous British Consulate Building near MotoiZaha slope to experience the daily life of people at leisure.

A rather high end neighbourhood which has a collection of old Church buildings. There is not much restaurants or things to do here. It is however a good place to have a nice walk, take some pictures of Hakodate Bay and Hakodate town.

The architecture in Motomachi is varied and interesting. It's well- maintained and photogenic. I recommend walking as high up the street as you can and zig- zagging your way down. The upper streets are hardly visited by tourists, but there are some good views down on the scene below.
