Simply blissful! We left Jaisalmer at 4.30am to be able to attend to the Aarti at 6am. We touched the temple of 'Ghantaewali Mata' - she is considered to be Tanot mata's younger sister. The aarti was soooo peaceful and instantly energising. We then left for Tanot mata's temple. The entire experience was simply overwhelming!!! It was almost as if Mata rani had called us there to be a part of her august aarti. We had our first cuppa cardamom tea with matthi's and balushai's and were enriched. During India-Pakistan war this entire region was heavily shelled and thanks to Mata Tanot's protective cover that out of the 450 bombs that dropped in the temple premises - not one of them exploded. In the entire vicinity there were 3000 such bombs that justs did not explode....Jai Mata Di!

Though we had our own 4x4 vehicle, but since we had not obtained permission in advance from army, we could not go beyond the temple towards the border. However, we on our way back went off the beaten track, had chai with the army personnel, climbed up the watch tower.

Loved it! Must visit if you go to Jaisalmer. The place is 20 kms from the Pakistani border and is maintained by the BSF. There is an unmistakable feeling of sanctity.

The place has unique ambiance of Patriotism & Worship together. Every day aarti done by JAWANS is one of the awesome thing to listen and proud to be part of that. Please get your documentation done prior so you can get chance to go further this temple.

This shud be visited by all tourists. This is the actual place where the war shown in the film Border happened. Actually the mortar shells which were bombed by Pak army didn't diffused here because of the presence of Tanot Mata. Enroute Tanot, you will find a dessert village Rohru which looks exceptionally beautiful from a distance. While coming back don't take this conventional route to Jaisalmer but instead go to Sadewala -- Longewala -- Ghotru -- Jaisalmer. You will love to see our borders with Pak and love to listen to the war stories from the Army Jawans typically like the poisoning of the well at Longewala so Pak army will drink water and die there itself. The dessert looks beautiful on this route with small villages in it. But your vehical shud be in excellent condition and tyres shud not trouble as there is no assistance on this route. Carry your own food Items and ample water

If you wish to visit BP 609, please collect permission from BSF headquarters just outside Jaisalmer city. We could not visit BP 609 because we thought we would get permission from tanot mata temple. It costed us rs. 4000 to visit tanot mata + longewala border from Jaisalmer in an innova. we were a group of 6. Its a 7 hour drive from jaisalmer and back.

Must visit Tanot Temple on your visit to Jaisalmer. The temple is 120kms outside Jaisalmer and is near the Indo-Pak border.Take prior permission from Jaisalmer if you wanna visit the border. The road to Tanot Temple is built and maintained by BRO which is both visible and felt. Fabulous plain road with miles of sand dunes and desert shrubs on both sides and a straight open road in the front.Just visit the temple for the drive of it.Highly Recommended !!
