We booked the Pearl Lagoon community tour with Kabu tours. The tour is very well organized with lots of information regarding the history of the communities and their customs. The team of Kabu tours is very enthusiastic and highly professional.

An incredibly well-thoughtout-out project! Kabu Tours is part of a larger effort to create viable economic opportunities for the people of the Pearl Lagoon that conserve rather than degrade the local ecosystem. If you are interested in promoting sustainable development while enjoying a vacation in an island paradise, look no further! My experience with their tours were professional, educational, and best of all, safe. Highly recommended!

I was in charge of a group of 16 french engineers that went with Kabu on a day trip to the Pearl Cays and I have to say we were all very, very impressed. The Kabu team, all locals, were professional, thorough, safe and very knowledgeable. They took us to some great snorkel spots, made a traditional "Rundown" stew for lunch, explained about the local wildlife and flora of the area and I learned more about turtles than I ever thought I would. I would love to return during nesting season and if I do, I will definitely go with Kabu! Highly recommended!

These guys are the best! Kabu tours is locally owned, by former turtle hunters who have given up such activity to develop tourism in the area. Their service was AMAZING. We went camping with Kabu and they made it spectacularly easy for us to do it. Food was amazing as well!

Kabu Tours made our ovenight trip to Cayos Perlas a success. They organized everything including boat transportation from Laguna Perlas (up to 45 minutes), preparing all meals, setting up our tent and sleeping gear, a table and chairs for meals, taking us to several snorkelling sites (bring your underwater camera!), explaining the history of the area, and guiding us in the water at the various snorkelling excursions. The cays were breathtakingly beautiful and the snorkelling was good. Our three guides (captain, cook and snorkel) were very professional, well organized, and took good care of us. Although it was not a luxury vacation, they made sure we were comfortable and safe. I only wish I had brought a bottle of wine to enjoy the beautiful sunset! The guides are all from the nearby village of Kakahbila, and used to fish for the green turtles - now they are committed to preserving them and earning a living through sustainable tourism. I would recommend this tour to anyone with an adventurous spirit wishing to experience a visit to a remote area in Nicaragua's Caribbean coast - bring a group of 6 people or so if you can, to reduce individual cost!

My trip to the Pearl Cays with Kabu Tours was the highlight of my trip to Nicaragua. My best friend and I did a one day/one night trip to the Cays, and Kabu Tours made every moment incredible. The trip was the perfect mix of relaxing on pristine tropical beaches, snorkeling, and exploring the neighboring islands. Our guides were very knowledgeable and we learned about the coral reef ecosystems, the sea turtle nesting habits, and the local Miskitu culture and language. The home-cooked meals were wonderful, and the entire trip we felt very safe and well-cared for. If you're in Pearl Lagoon, don't pass up a trip to the Pearl Cays with Kabu Tours!

My best friend and I did a one day/one night trip with Kabu Tours. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. We had a pristine island all to ourselves, when snorkeling in the most brilliant coral reef I have ever seen, and ate delicious home-cooked meals. Our guides were wonderful, and really fun! They walked us around the island at night to search for sea turtles nesting, taught us Miskitu words, and seemed to have everything we could ever need ready and waiting for us. It was an amazing experience and a wonderful trip. I can't say enough good things about Kabu tours!

I spent a day and a night on one of the beautiful Pearl Keys with Kabu Tours and it was definitely the highlight of my four weeks in Nicaragua. We camped on Crawl Key which was an absolute paradise of white sand, palm trees and very little else (apart from a half-built house that stands there eerily, after a wealthy foreigner was forced to abandon their dream of a private desert island retreat). Whilst there we did some snorkelling, explored the island (which doesn't take too long as you can walk from one end to the other in just a few minutes) and just generally indulged the ultimate ship-wreck fantasy. It was awe-inspiring - so beautiful, so peaceful, so completely unspoiled. From the start, Kabu impressed me with how professional they are. They provided three staff members (a snorkelling guide, a speedboat driver, and a chef) who went with us to the island in Kabu's speedboat, which was ready-laden with all the supplies we would need for the next 24 hours. I literally didn't have to take anything except my hat, sunscreen and camera. As soon as we arrived they were setting up a table and chairs, preparing lunch, erecting our tents and installing a very hygienic temporary lavatory. They made sure that the island got left in exactly the same state it was when we arrived. We left nothing on the island and took nothing from it (ok, maybe a coconut!). It was all very environmentally-friendly.After some snorkelling to see the nearby coral, our guide took us out in the boat to explore a handful of neighbouring Keys, and then we headed back to our own island where a delicious fish supper had been prepared and was served on a table complete with crisp white table cloth - considering how remote we were, it was all very civilised! Over dinner the guys from Kabu filled us in on the history and culture of the peoples who live in the Pearl Lagoon basin, especially those of Khakabila, the community from which our guides all came. After a comfortable night in some decent tents we awoke the next morning to a prepared breakfast and then headed out for more snorkelling and a visit to the mangroves further out in the Keys. After some fairly basic tours in other parts of Nicaragua, I was struck with how slick Kabu Tours is. Their operation was smooth and efficient, and I was frequently impressed at their attention to detail when it came to both the comfort of the tourist and their sensitivity to the ecosystem.Like I said, it was the best thing I did while in Nicaragua, and I was glad that I did it with the Kabu boys and not one of the other less professional outfits in Pearl Lagoon. This desert island adventure comes wholeheartedly recommended!
