After reading some of the reviews, my husband and I, both in our late fifties, opted for hiking to the falls from the top of the trails. We paid $4.00 per person at the Canopy Tours where there's a very nice café with great smoothies. We walked over a hanging bridge and down a man-made path to visit the first 2 falls. You do need decent water shoes for walking on the rocks once you get to the waterfalls. Spent a little time at the first waterfall watching some young people scaling the rocks and jumping to the next waterfall. We opted to head back to the trail to reach that second and larger waterfall. It was great fun swimming in the deep pool to go under the waterfall. The water was clear and refreshing. We spent a lot of time just hanging out there. It was good to be cooled off by the swim before the upward hike back to where we started. Not the largest waterfall I've seen, but it still made for a wonderful experience.

We always hike up to the waterfall when in Montezuma. Pack a lunch and a few cold beers for your trip. Where solid shoes that can get wet, you sill have to hike in the stream part way.

The great thing about these falls aren't the falls themselves, the falls are ok but nothing extraordinary. It is the scenery on the way to get to them. I saw a golden silk spun spider, colorful frogs and all kinds of different critters on the way up to them. The plant life and is really awesome and its a great place to rest and enjoy some quiet time. Don't expect a big water display and you won't be disappointed. But if you take the time to enjoy everything around you it is really a great place to visit.

This was a fun experience for everyone, you can jump off the waterfalls but be careful my dad cracked his head open!

The falls are great, as long as you don't have expectations for something amazing. I had a good time climbing over rocks and hanging from ropes, and the falls themselves were beautiful. However, if you think it's going to be magnanimous and incredible, you may be disappointed. While I enjoyed it, I heard others around me who were much less excited. When you climb up the stairs to the higher falls, expect to pay a small fee to a man behind a gate. It's about 1,000 colones ($2). There are a lot of these random "fees" that you'll run into in Costa Rica - better to know that you run into a "fee" everywhere you go than to be taken by surprise, I suppose! Anyhow, the falls are nice, but if you're looking for something huge and fabulous, this may not be the adventure for you.

The falls are definitely worth a view. Spend some time relaxing by the lower pool, or make the daunting climb to the upper pool, and reward yourself with the opportunity to overcome your fear, and take the 10 metre jump. Not for the faint of heart or unsteady of step.

We hiked up the river to the lower falls. Our Lonely Planet guide said follow the trail. Well the trail peters out pretty quick and you end up crossing the river & walking along the rocks on the banks of the river. Eventually you can get up to a trail that's a little easier to walk along. I carry a lot of camera gear (backpack, tripod, and 500mm lens) which means I'm looking for an easier trail. Points of this trail depend on you grasping a rope to lower yourself or to prevent yourself from sliding into the water. This was not the place for me with my camera gear. After reaching the first waterfall, somebody pointed us to the trail towards the upper falls. This was up a very steep hillside and neither my wife nor I were interested in attempting to climb this trail. There were people swimming at the bottom of the falls and we were told that there was more swimming up top. We chose not to swim there as we were concerned about trying to use the trail with wet shoes. Maybe it's us, but it was a little harder trail than we expected.

This hike was pretty difficult, but worth it. Be sure to wear tennis shoes and bring your bathing suit!Getting to the first waterfall is pretty simple. Some spots are a bit more difficult and require hanging onto a rope to shimmy across the rocks. Once at the waterfall, strip down and take a swim! Keep an eye on your stuff- there are a lot of people here. This first waterfall is near 100ft tall.If you choose to continue the hike, be aware it is very difficult, can be slippery and goes on the edge of cliffs without railings. There are areas that require climbing with a rope and repelling. Don't let this deter you though... It's very nice at the top.At the top, you will reach the top of a 50ft waterfall and a 25ft waterfall above it. You can swim in the pool of the 25ft waterfall and there is a rope swing to enjoy. Some courageous people will jump off the 50ft waterfall. This will take you to the pool above the 100ft waterfall. They are all connected.Be careful and enjoy!

This is a free day where you hike to these marvelous falls. There were people jumping from the cliffs. The water is wonderful in the heat.

Great place to swim and cool off. It's a calm and relaxed alternative to the strong waves and hot sun on the beach!
