It is well worth a drive on very good paved roads through this beautiful valley. The leaves wee a burnt orange in February and it felt like fall leaf time. All green with splashes of orange was delightful. We walked through the La Cumbre Christian Athletic camp along a gorgeous river and we highly recommend that. It is on the way to some trout farms and you can get the details from Lonely Planet for this area. Don't miss it if you have the time for a day's drive. If you have more time, we recommend the Turrialba area and a stay at the Turraltico Lodge---great people running it!

I took the tour you can buy through Viatour (part of tripadvisor). Price was competitive and it was quicker with the short time I had in San Jose. The tour was excellent in most respects but let me down with regards to the weather. We could see nothing on top of the volcano due to clouds, which was a real shame. Not anyone's fault but from speaking / reading reviews, it appears to be more systemic than perhaps is advertised. Well worth it still. My advice: Check the weather forecast before booking. I only had the one day so didn't have the luxury. A full review of the tour is here:http://djsandkp.blogspot.com/2015/01/cloudy-with-chance-of-volcanoes.htmlAnd Costa Rican food is here:http://djsandkp.blogspot.com/2015/02/costa-rica-in-my-mouth.html

Lively villages, typica food, incredible scenery. Easy access to San Jose yet far enough away to enjoy nature and Costa Rica's lifestyle. The village of Orosi is a nice little hub for explorations and adventures.

You'll see monkeys, cayman's, many different birds and other wildlife and it's so lush throughout the edge of the River, very peaceful, and it was kind of Hot that day but it's a covered boat that does make some stops so definitely worth. It...

Orosi Valley is beautiful and quiet. We enjoyed so much our stay. First day we walked from our lodge to Paraiso. The original plan was to get a bus but while walking in the road, but the bus driver refused to stop to let us in. So we had no choice. It was tiring but a nice and scenic walk. We saw coffee farmers collecting coffee beans. In the next morning we went to Tapanti National Park.I would recommend maximum 1 to 2 nights in Orosi.

The Irazu volcano, Lankester gardens and Orosi valley tour was fabulous, our driver Christian and guide Enrique were both wonderful. Enrique especially was so friendly, fun, knowledgeable, accommodating, and kind he made the whole thing work! His knowledge of plants especially made the botanical gardens part of the tour perfect. Beware, the volcano is COLD. I thought I prepared with long pants and a jacket, I wish I had brought gloves and a hat! The lunch is spectacular, and the two catholic churches we visited were very different, but equally cool. I would recommend this if you only have a day to take in several sights. You will be picked up and dropped off at your hotel, so no worries if you don't have a car.

We had one full day to spend in San Jose and wanted to go to Arenal area but with a 4 hour travel time one way by private car and only 1 daily mid afternoon flight each way. So we chose Orosi Valley for a day of category I-II river rafting, visit to a family coffee plantation, and finally a soak in the most pristine and beautiful private estate hot springs. Thanks to fellow trip advisor recommendation from Ben from CA, we called Luis Palma of Aventuras Orosi who personalized our preferences for the activities and provided choices for lunch. They are small outfitters who take safety seriously. Modest equipment but very personable experience where they took photos and had GoPro video available for purchase if you liked it after viewing. The only disappointment was the coffee plant was closed that day so while it was one on one, there was not much to experience and no coffee to try so make sure the coffee plantation is open before you agree. To arrange for transportation from courtyard by Marriott we contacted Frank of Costa Rica Reliable Tours and negotiated a rate for the day. frankchicas@hotmail.com He was reasonable, good driver, super fun family man and a knowledgable driver and guide. In heavy morning traffic it took 2 hours to get there. On the way back it was only 1:15 before rush hour and we were back at hotel by 4pm.

We visit there often. There are hidden cafe's and restaurants that merrit a visit to themselves. It rains the most there than any other place in Costa Rica. You can drive up to the hydroelectric lake on the top of the mountain, that is a great drive.

Great value. Definitely do it. Luis Palma and his companion were excellent guides - very skilled and very professional. They did a fantastic job and made the trip memorable. If you are planning to go to Orosi then please ensure to arrange to stay overnight at the nearby private hot spring. Luis can help you. His telephone number is: 8345-6368
