I loved this zoo. It is actually a wildlife sanctuary, where animals that may not survive otherwise are given a beautiful place to be. They are native animals of Belize so it is a fantastic place to get a close up look at the animals of this region. The habitats are natural and lush. In some cases they are so lush that it is not easy to find the animals but we were always able to spot them and in many cases they came forward to see us. There are over 150 animals and more than 36 species so expect to spend some time here if you want to see all of them. The jaguars, puma, and harpy eagles are among my personal favorites. It was not crowded when we were there and it was very relaxed and easy to enjoy the zoo. This zoo is an exceptional attraction! Highly recommended to animal lovers and families.

This place is off the hook! Only 29 acres, but man oh man, what a cool zoo. All animals are native to Belize and, for varying reasons, can not live in the wild. We visited the zoo in both the day and evening. Two great experiences. If you book the night tour, (which is a MUST do), take a flashlight or headlamp. You will be blown away by this tour. This is an up close and personal experience with some magnificent animals. The zoo offers numerous animal encounters for a fee. We fed the Tapirs for $2.50USD and it was a highlight of our trip. Admisssion in the day is $15.00. Night tours are expensive (50.00USD) if you have less than 4 people. Call ahead to see if others have signed up for the night tour, as the cost is half that with 4 or more. The gift shop has some cool souveniers. This is hands down one of the coolest zoos ever.

I am a zoo enthousiast and I found this one of the best zoos I've ever visited. All animals live in a natural setting, none of them are captured. We spent a fantastic afternoon in the zoo.

Great staff and lots to see. I didn't realize how big this "little" zoo was. The highlight for my kids was feeding the birds that landed on their hands.

We had very little time in which to enjoy this zoo but focused on the animals we most wanted to see: toucans, harpy eagles, jaguar, spider monkeys and tapirs. The poems written to introduce the animals are charming - most of the animals have been rescued, making this a truly worthwhile project. There is one sign, so you have to be on the lookout as your are driving out of Belize City or you'll miss it. It's worth the stop.Toilets are onsite and there is a café and gift shop as well.

I liked that the zoo was not crowded at all. We could take our time going through it and could always get a good view of the animals. The jaguar encounter was a very cool experience if you are looking for closer contact with the animals. The surroundings throughout the zoo were also very beautiful.

I have been to quite a few zoos all around the world do to the fact that I am a real animal enthusiast so this was something I wanted to check out. We did a Jaguar encounter which costs a little more but is totally worth is we got a real up close encounter with them.

The sign for the zoo is easy to miss but it is worth looking for. While the residents are caged, the cages are spacious and well treed. Many of the birds and animals are rescues who would not survive in the wild and most of them are creatures you are not likely to actually see in the wild, especially the cats.

My husband & I visited the Belize Zoo in January of 2015. It is a privately owned zoo in the middle of a rain forest. It was started by a woman from Maryland in 1974 and it is just magical. We went with a guide, King David, of AlTourNative Belize Services (on Facebook) and he was terrific. He knew all the animals and birds as his knowledge was extensive. We spent 2 and 1/2 hours at the fabulous zoo and it is not to be missed. There are monkeys, pigs, deer, a crocodile, baboons, leopards and other wild cats and all kinds of tropical birds. The setting is so natural one feels as though one is in the forest living with these animals and birds.

It's a little ways out, and a little small, but that made for a quick walk on a 100 degree day. All of the animals are native to Belize, so you're learning about the country as well. This also means that all of the enclosures are made out of these animals' natural habitat, which isn't something you see in the states. A lot of the animals are rescues, which is also great. While we were there they had the people in a cage which was inside of the cat's enclosure and they were feeding it!! Then they sprayed - I kid you not- Channel No 5 on a log and it went nuts rubbing, purring, and rolling all over it...the worker said it will work with your cat at home too! It was a shame that our camera "ate" those photos but we got some great shots of the tucan and a very playful ocelot too! ohhh and monkeys!! you can go up in the trees on a walkway and watch them swing around. Pretty sweet. something you would never see anywhere else.
