The shrine is really beautiful and has such a calming effect. It's a great experience to go throw the ritual of washing your hands before entering, learning the correct way of prayers. It's very popular in Japan to have charms for all types of things, like health, career, studies and so forth, the shrine sells beautiful charms. You can all have your future told, these are available in various languages after reading them, tied them at towers of wishes.Really great place to visit.

The shrine is nested in Maruyama park which is accessible via Maruyama koen (Tozai line) exit 3.A surreal walk from the park to towards the shrine especially in the thick powdered snow.Tried the mochi azuki at Rokkatei just beside the shrine. It costs 100 yen per piece and it is absolutely delicious. On the way back to the park, there were kids tubing down a small slope and giggling throughout, what a happy and pretty sight...After the shrine trip, suggest to head to a nice cosy cafe called Cafe liner notes located 2nd floor of Marayuma class (exit 6 of Maruyama koen station) for a cup of great coffee art.http://maruyama-class.com/shop/details/?id=203

This is the most visited shrine in Hokkaido. We went during the winter, when the whole area was covered in snow - it was beautiful! The walk up to the shrine along a beautiful snowy path was a nice easy bit of exercise is a picturesque setting.Make sure you come before 4pm. The temple grounds shut at 4pm on the dot! The surrounding grounds are still nice, but you will not be able to get a fortune, a Goshoinchou stamp, or wring the bell for good fortune!

The Hokkaido Shrine was exceedingly charming all covered in snow. It was also a great first religious-cultural experience for the young teenaged boy in our group, as an introduction to Shintoism. It's an attraction definitely worth the effort to visit. The shrine is a short walk away from the Maruyama Koen station, and is located in the beautiful Maruyama Park, which also houses the Maruyama Zoo and the Maruyama Baseball and Athletics Stadiums.

a must visit place in Sapporo, especially in snow season. The whole Jingu is covered by white snow and the way along to it is so beautiful for pics..also lots of crows flying over...Wash your left hands first and then right hands before going into the temple, make some wishes.
